What am I going to do in this occupation?

Providing an environment that is clean and welcoming. Operatives Dust; Clean floors, windows and cookers etc.; vacuum carpets; polish furniture; change the linen  and so forth.

A wide variety of Cleaning Products and Equipment are used by Cleaning Operatives; from mop and bucket to electrically powered machines and special cleaning solutions.

Most Offices are cleaned while the personnel are not there and therefore cleaners often work evenings or early mornings. In buildings requiring 24-hours maintenance, such as hospitals and hotels, cleaners may be required to work shifts. Domestic/Home Cleaners usually work from 9 am to 3 pm weekdays.

Requirements

What kind of personality do I need? Cleaners are often in contact with the public and therefore should be courteous and tactful. Cleaning Operatives must be able to follow instructions precisely and be motivated to get on with their tasks without supervision.

The Cleaning Operative should have good health, as much of the work is quite physical and is expected to be completed quickly and thoroughly.

Where can I work?

Cleaners are employed at offices; schools; hotels; private homes, and various other premises.
